Your fingerprints are scanned and securely transmitted to the government for checking criminal history backgrounds, They use an Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). Live Scan is often required for some for state-issued licenses, volunteer work, and employment.
Do You Provide the Forms or Do I Have to Bring the Form?
Whoever is requesting for the Live Scan should provide you with the Request for Live Scan form. If a live scan location provides you with the Live Scan form there is a possibility that it is not for the correct agency, and your Live Scan could be rejected or sent to the wrong agency. Contact the requesting agency to obtain the correct Request For Live Scan Service Form
Outside states may request Ink Fingerprinting which will be printed on a hard card. You’ll be the one to mail this card to the requesting agency. Either your agency will provide you with a ink card or we will provide you with the standard ink card.
Do I Have to Do a Live Scan Again?

Is Live Scan the Same as a Background Check?
Live Scan is a form of background check that the federal and state governments require often for state-issued licenses, employment, or volunteer work. It’s also often required for (but not limited to) those who volunteer or work in positions of trust for populations such as vulnerable citizens, the elderly, dependent adults, and children.

1. The status link is linked to the California Department Justice for Live Scan Only; ink cards will not be able to get status information.
2. The Customers will take the Ink Card with them to submit to the requesting agency. The customer will bring in instructions from the requesting agency for the ink cards which may require additional instructions, such as: we might have to sign a document that the customer had the ink card completed at an approved fingerprint company; we might have to put the cards in a provided envelope and seal the envelope as instructed by the requesting agency; we might have to sign across the seal of the envelope. These are some of the instructions from requesting agencies that we have received. Not all requesting agencies will have additional instruction, but the customer will always take the cards and mail them to the requesting agency. The instruction information does not necessarily be on the their website.
